Prior Park was designed by John Wood the Elder and built out of Bath stone in 1730’s and 40’s for Ralph Allen, Postmaster, Mayor of Bath and MP for the city. The architectural style was clearly influenced by Andrea Palladio and by Colen Campbell’s designs for Wanstead House in Essex, the largest Palladian house in England.
